The colony of Pennsylvania was founded by Quaker, William Penn. He wanted to have a safe home for Quakers. Quakers believed that all people were created equal. They also were against slavery, allowed women roles in society, supported non-violence, respected the Native American people, and were tolerant of all religious groups.
The colony of Pennsylvania would reflect William Penn's beliefs. Pennsylvania gave its people a representative government with an elected assembly. Immigrants were welcomed and religious freedom was granted to all. Because of this, many German and Scottish immigrants settled in the Pennsylvania farming regions. Even the Native Americans were treated fairly. Its capital city was Philadelphia, also known as "The City of Brotherly Love" would become a major port in America and would be home to a diverse population based on equality and fairness.
